Interface
How the Irakasi editor is organized and how its controls work.
The Irakasi editor has a few conventions of its own, from how buttons and fields behave to how panels come and go. This page explains them from the smallest controls up to the panels that hold them, and gives each panel the name used throughout this reference.
Buttons

The toolbars and panels use three kinds of button, and their shape tells you what they do.
State buttons

Toolbar state buttons are rectangular. They turn something on or off, such as a tool, a panel, or a setting, and stay highlighted while it is on. They come in two weights:
- Primary, strongly colored when active, for the states that matter most, such as the selected tool or the current mode.
- Secondary, lightly tinted when active, for less important states, such as optional views and preferences.
Action buttons

Action buttons are circular. They run an action right away, such as undo or delete, and do not stay pressed.
Multi-buttons

Multi-buttons show a small triangle on one side. The triangle means the button hides alternatives. Reveal them by right-clicking the button, or by clicking and dragging in the direction of the triangle. On a state multi-button, the alternative you pick replaces the one shown on the button. On an action multi-button, the alternative just runs.
Fields
Number fields

Number fields accept typing and dragging:
- Drag: press on the field and drag up to increase the value or down to decrease it. A short click still places the cursor for typing.
- Steppers: some fields show small triangles on each side that change the value by one step. Hold Shift for steps ten times larger.
- Math expressions: type an expression such as
120/4and it is solved when you confirm it or leave the field. See Math expressions in numeric fields. - Limits: typed and dragged values stay within the field's limits. A step that would go past a limit leaves the value as it is.
- Units: fields with a unit show it after the number and hide it while you type.
- Driven by an animation: while an animation controls a value, such as the position of an animated shape, its field is read-only between the block's start and end. At the start or end, values the block supports stay editable.
Color fields

A color field shows the current color in a swatch. Click the swatch to open the picker, where you can also type a hex code:
- Color area: drag to choose the color.
- L (lightness): makes the color darker or lighter, with its field or slider.
- C (chroma): makes the color more muted or more vivid, with its field or slider.
- Palette: a grid of preset colors. A preset is outlined when it matches the current color.
- Eye dropper: picks a color from anywhere on the screen, in browsers that support it.
L and C come from OKLCH, a color model built around how people see color. Use L to bring colors of different hues closer in brightness, or to adjust contrast without changing the hue.
When the selected shapes have different colors, the swatch shows diagonal stripes.
Lists

Most lists apply each option as you move through them with the arrow keys, so you can compare options on the board. Lists that add something, replace your work, reload live content, or act on the text you're editing wait until you choose an option.
Attributes panel controls
Sections

The Attributes panel is divided into sections. Click a section's header to collapse or expand it. A collapsed section stays collapsed for every shape you select, and the editor remembers it the next time you open the board in this browser.
Mixed values

With several shapes selected, a number field whose value differs between them shows ---, a color field shows stripes, and a switch can show a mixed state. Setting it gives every selected shape the same value. See Attributes of a multiple selection.
Copying attributes

Attributes with a button can be copied from another shape on the board. See Picking attributes from another shape.
Panels

Main panel

Top left. File, history, and view commands:
- App menu: file commands such as Import file (Imports), Download board, Export, Copy, and Print.
- UI settings: change how the board is displayed. See Settings.
- Undo: undoes the last change.
- Redo: redoes it.
- Zoom: an action multi-button. Zoom to selection frames the selected shapes, or the visible content when nothing is selected, and Reset zoom returns the zoom to 1x. See Navigation actions.
- Enter fullscreen: takes the app to the whole screen. Exit fullscreen returns. See Fullscreen.
Board header

Top center:
- Board name: the name of the board you are editing.
- Version: the active Version, when it isn't Main.
- Use AI with this board: opens the connection settings on a computer. Once connected, it shows MCP server connected or WebMCP connected. See Connect board to AI.
- Share live content: the screen button beside the connection button lets your assistant's screenshots include live content. Turn it on and choose this tab in the browser prompt; a green dot marks sharing. Turn it off to stop sharing.
- Agent activity: after the first request, the line below the connection button shows the agent's current activity or the time of its last action. Click it to open tasks and steps while keeping the board usable. See Following what it does.
Secondary panel

Top right:
- Mode selector: switches between Creation mode, Animation mode, and Player mode. See Modes.
- Panel toggles: show or hide each panel. Player mode keeps only the Attributes panel toggle, and the Timeline panel toggle appears in Animation mode or when the board has animation blocks:
- the Side panel.
- the Actions panel.
- the Attributes panel.
- the Timeline panel.
Tools panel

Bottom center. The tools for working with the board's content, grouped in multi-buttons. Each group shows the tool you used last:
- Navigation: Explore canvas and Zoom area. See Navigation tools.
- Selection: Rectangular selection and Paint selection. See Selection tools.
- Text: Text, Text on path, Rich text block, and Code text. See Text.
- Paths: Freehand drawing, Pen, Curve through points, and Straight line through points. See Paths.
- Geometry: Rectangle, Ellipse, Triangle, and Rhombus. See Geometry.
- Arrows: Arrow, Elbow arrow, Bezier arrow, Measure distance, and Measure angle. See Arrows.
- Eraser: removes every shape you drag across. It skips locked shapes, and it doesn't erase a group or a frame that contains the point where the stroke starts.
- Board objects: Frame, Empty canvas, Camera, Table, HTML shape, File card, and Audio shape. See Shapes.
Minimap

Bottom left. See Minimap:
- Overview: a small view of the whole board, to find your way around a large one.
- Zoom level: the current zoom.
- Show minimap: switches between the compact and expanded minimap.
Side panel

Left, toggled with . Holds the lists below. While it is off, it slides in when you move a mouse pointer to the left edge, outside Player mode, and hides again when you leave it. Choose a list with the selector at its top:
- Boards: the boards stored in this browser, and the commands to create, upload, and insert them. See Managing boards.
- Versions: the content variants of the current board, with Main first. See Versions.
- Icons: an icon library you can search and place on the board as shapes. See Icon library.
- Cameras: the named views of the board, which frame what an animation or a presentation shows. See Cameras.
- Sequences: the animations of the board. Each sequence has its own timeline, and the Timeline panel shows the active one. See Sequences.
- Selections: named sets of shapes and animation blocks you can select again with one click. See Named selections.
Actions panel

Left of the board, toggled with . The actions for the current context:
- With shapes selected, the commands that apply to them, such as delete, lock, duplicate, and reset to Main.
- With a tool active, the actions that tool offers, such as finishing or cancelling what you are drawing.
- In Animation mode, the commands to create and manage animation blocks and pauses.
Attributes panel

Right, toggled with . The properties of the current context. See Attributes:
- With a tool active: the settings of that tool, such as the stroke and fill it will draw with.
- With shapes selected: their attributes, grouped in sections.
- With an animation block selected: its settings, such as its timing and easing. When a shape and a block are both selected, which one the panel shows depends on the mode.
- In Player mode: the Player settings.
Timeline panel

Bottom, toggled with . Where the animation of the board is played and edited. While it is hidden and docked, it slides in when you move a mouse pointer to the bottom edge, outside Player mode. See Timeline panel:
- Header controls: playback, track display, and timing settings.
- Overview strip: the sequence's whole length, with the range that plays.
- Ruler and playhead: the time in seconds, and the current moment.
- Tracks: rows that hold the animation blocks. A block can animate several shapes.
Menus and windows
Context menu

Right-click the board, or press and hold on a touch screen, to open a ring of commands around the pointer. See Context menu.
Floating windows

Some editors can leave their panel and float over the board, where they have more room:
- The Timeline panel.
- The easing of an animation block.
- The variable volume of an audio block.
Working with a window:
- Move: drag its bar.
- Resize: drag its edges or corners. The Timeline panel's top edge moves the window instead.
- Hide: windows hide in Player mode and when the interface is hidden, and come back where they were.
