Exports
Saving boards, shapes, pictures, videos, and printouts, and copying them to other apps.
Content leaves Irakasi in these ways:
- A board file: keeps a whole board, to open it in another browser or keep a copy. See Downloading a board.
- A shapes file: keeps some shapes, to insert them into another board. See Exporting shapes.
- Pictures, videos, and GIFs: turn the board into files you can share or put in documents and slides. See Exporting images and Exporting videos and GIFs.
- Printouts and PDF files: put the board on pages. See Printing.
- The clipboard: takes shapes or pictures to another board or app. See Copying.
- Files inside shapes: download the file an image, a video, a PDF, or a file card holds. See Downloading files from shapes.
Downloading a board

Saves the whole board as a file on your device.
- Operation, one of:
- Choose Download board in the App menu.
- Choose Download in a board's options menu, in the Boards list of the Side panel, to download that board.
- Result: an
.irakasifile named after the board and the date.- What it holds: the board's shapes, animations, media, and Versions.
- Linked media: media that can't be copied into the file, such as a video linked from a website, stays linked to where it came from.
- Tip: Upload opens the file as a board in any browser. See Uploading a board.
The Export submenu

The Export submenu of the App menu, in the Main panel, holds the exports:
- What it exports: the selected shapes, or the whole board if nothing is selected.
- Videos and GIFs: they use the active sequence and the camera settings below.
Exporting shapes
Saves some shapes as a file, to add them to another board.
- Operation: choose Export shapes in the Export submenu.
- Result: an
.irakasifile with the shapes and their animations, without the board's Versions. - Tip: add the file to a board with Insert or by dropping it. See Inserting a canvas file.
Exporting images
Saves the shapes as a picture.
- Operation: choose Export selection as or Export scene as, followed by the format, in the Export submenu.
- Result: a picture file in the format you chose:
| Format | Best for |
|---|---|
| SVG | Shapes to keep editing in vector apps. Images and lens effects stay pixel images |
| PNG | Screenshots and pictures with a transparent background |
| JPEG | Photos, with adjustable quality and no transparency |
| WebP | The web, with adjustable quality and transparency |
- Tip: with a single camera selected, the picture is the area the camera marks, at the camera's export size and with no padding. See Cameras.
Image export settings

Settings, at the bottom of the Export submenu, sets how pictures are exported. The settings are remembered in this browser, for every board.
- Include background in export: paints the board background behind the shapes. Off by default, which gives PNG, SVG, and WebP a transparent background.
- Export scale: multiplies the size of the picture, in every format: at 2, a shape 100 units wide comes out 200 pixels wide. 1 by default. A single camera uses its own export size instead.
- Exported image padding: the empty margin around the shapes, in board units. 0 by default.
- Export image quality: the compression of JPEG and WebP, from 0.1 to 1. 0.8 by default.
Exporting videos and GIFs
Renders the board's animation as a video or an animated GIF, through its cameras.
- Operation: choose Export as Video in the Export submenu, set the options of the Export Video / GIF dialog, and click Export Video or Export GIF.
- Needs: a board with at least one animation block and one camera.
- Result: a video or GIF of the active sequence:
- Size: the camera's export size times the Scale. With several cameras, the file uses their largest width and height, and smaller pictures are centered.
- Sound: a video includes the sound of Audio and video blocks; a GIF has none.
- Watermark: a small Irakasi watermark.
- Progress: a dialog shows how far the render is, with Cancel. When the video renders in another tab, that tab shows it instead. See Exporting in another tab.
- Tip: which camera each moment goes through is explained in Animating cameras.
Video export settings

The options of the Export Video / GIF dialog. They are remembered in this browser.
- Camera: which camera films the video:
- Active camera, the default: the video goes through the active camera at each moment:
- With Active Camera blocks: the camera each block chooses. Moments that no block covers are left out.
- Without Active Camera blocks: the board's only camera, or the first one in the Cameras panel when there are several.
- One camera: only that camera films the video. If Active Camera blocks choose it at some moments, the video keeps only those moments. Otherwise it covers the whole animation.
- Active camera, the default: the video goes through the active camera at each moment:
- Frames per second: from 1 to 120. 30 by default.
- Scale: multiplies the camera's export size, from 0.25 to 4. 1 by default.
- Include background:
- On, the default: paints the board background behind the shapes.
- Off: leaves it out. MP4 videos stay opaque, and WebM transparency depends on the codec and the browser.
- Include pause markers: the animation's playback speed also applies to the video. See Animation pauses.
- On, the default: holds the animation at each sequence pause marker.
- Off: skips them. Block pauses still apply.
- Use playback range: renders the playback range set in the Timeline panel. On by default.
- Range start and Range end: the seconds to render when Use playback range is off.
- Format: mp4 or webm for a video, gif for an animated GIF. mp4 by default.
- Color palette (max colors): for a GIF, how many colors it may use, from 2 to 256. 256 by default.
- Codec: for a video, the encoder to use among the ones this browser offers. The first one is marked as recommended and is the default.
- Video bitrate (kbps): for a video, how much data each second of picture gets. Higher values usually mean a bigger file. 6000 by default.
- Audio bitrate (kbps): the same for the sound. 0 makes a silent video. 128 by default.
- Estimated size: for a video, roughly how big the file will be with these settings.
- Enable background export, marked Experimental: for a video, which tab renders it.
- On: the video renders in a new browser tab, so you can keep working on the board. On by default in Chrome on a computer.
- Off: the video renders in this tab. Off by default in other browsers.
- In other browsers: the start of the sound can be missing, so check the picture and sound of the file.
- Always in this tab: GIFs, and boards with content the new tab can't render, such as HTML shapes, web embeds, or a video linked from a website. A line under the setting says so.
Exporting in another tab
With Enable background export on, Export Video opens a new browser tab that renders the video, and a notification says the export started there.
- Your board: keep editing it or close it. The video shows the board as it was when you clicked Export Video; later changes are not included.
- The export tab: shows the progress, with Cancel. Keep it open until the download starts.
- The download: starts on its own when the video is ready. If it doesn't, click Download video in the export tab.
Printing

Turns the board into pages through your browser's print dialog, to print them on paper or save them as a PDF file. Selecting several cameras gives a document with one page per camera, such as a handout or a set of slides.
- Operation: choose one of these in the Print submenu of the App menu, then use your browser's print dialog:
- Print selection for digital or Print scene for digital: each page is the size of what it shows. Choose Save as PDF in the print dialog to keep those sizes.
- Print selection to paper or Print scene to paper: each page fits the sheet chosen in the print dialog, for a printer.
- Result:
- Shapes or nothing selected: one page with the selection, or with the whole board when nothing is selected.
- Only cameras selected: one page per camera that shows something, in the order you selected them.
Copying

- Operation: copy the selection, or choose a command in the Copy submenu of the App menu:
- Copy as shape, or Copy as shapes for several: keeps the selected shapes as Irakasi shapes, with their animations and media, for pasting into a board. It is what copying the selection does.
- Copy selection as or Copy scene as, followed by SVG or PNG: copies a picture.
- PNG: pastes into apps that accept images, such as a document, a slide, or a chat.
- SVG: can paste as SVG code, depending on the browser and the app.
- Tip: with a single camera selected, the picture is the area the camera marks, at the camera's export size.
Copy settings

Settings, at the bottom of the Copy submenu, sets how pictures are copied. The settings are remembered in this browser, for every board.
- Include background in copy: paints the board background behind the shapes. Off by default, which gives the picture a transparent background.

- Sound edits: the Audio editor downloads the whole sound or a selection of it.
- PDFs: the original PDF, or the PDF with your annotations.
- File cards: the file the card holds.
- Tables: the table as a spreadsheet, and the files attached to its cells.
- HTML shapes: the page as an HTML file.
- Cameras: a compressed picture of the area the camera marks.
