Connect board to AI overview
Use AI agents from your own AI subscription to read and edit your boards.
You can connect an open board in your browser to an AI app you already use (such as Claude, Codex, Cursor, or Gemini) with your own AI subscription:
- Inspect and edit the board: your assistant can read the board's shapes, cameras, and animations, and create or update them while you watch (see Available tools and Working with your assistant).
- Build motion pieces: ask your assistant for a launch promo, an explainer, or a narrated clip built with scenes, cameras, and animations on your board (see Motion pieces).
- Keep the board open in a browser tab: your assistant works through the open board tab in your browser, so a board must stay open in a connected tab to be edited.
- Connect in two ways: use the Local board MCP server (built on the Model Context Protocol) for desktop and command-line AI apps, or Board WebMCP for browser-based AI agents (see Two ways to connect).
Connection controls

Use the AI connection controls from a desktop or laptop computer. They sit in the Board header, below the board name:
- Before connecting: Use AI with this board opens the connection dialog with setup instructions for both methods.
- Connected: the button shows MCP server connected or WebMCP connected, with a green dot and border. It opens the connection settings in either state.
- Agent activity: after the first request, the line below the connection button names the agent and shows its current activity or the time of its last action. Click it to open the activity dropdown and review each agent's tasks while you continue using the board (see Following what it does).
- Share live content: turn it on to include live content in your assistant's screenshots. Choose this Irakasi tab in the browser's sharing prompt (see Sharing live content).
Two ways to connect

Choosing Use AI with this board opens a dialog with two connection methods, which you can also use at the same time or across several AI apps:
- Local board MCP server: a local MCP server (the @irakasi/board-mcp package) that offers board tools to your AI app. You add it to your AI app once, and the app starts it on your computer whenever it needs it. Recommended when your assistant creates images or other files on your computer to add to the board.
- Board WebMCP: offers the same board tools directly from the browser tab using WebMCP, a proposed web standard for browser AI agents (either an AI app's built-in browser or a browser's own assistant). Nothing needs installing.
| Local board MCP server | Board WebMCP | |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Add it once to your AI app. Needs Node.js 20 or newer. | Nothing to install. The browser must support WebMCP. |
| Where your agent works | In your AI app, on your computer. | In a browser: an AI app's built-in browser or a browser's assistant. |
| Connecting a board | In each browser tab you want to connect, choose Connect to local server. | Open the board in the browser where your agent works, and give the agent access to that tab. |
| Files you add | Read from the folders the server can access on your computer, up to 10 MiB for an image or 50 MiB for any other file. | A web page cannot open folders on your computer, so your assistant gives the board a web link to download the file from, or includes the file in its message (for small files). |
| Files on the board | The local server gives your assistant a temporary link on your computer to read the file, up to 25 MiB for an image or 50 MiB for any other file. | Your assistant reads long documents (PDFs, e-books, and comic books) a few pages or chapters at a time. A file the board loads from a web address reaches your assistant as that address. Any other whole file travels inside the board's reply, which AI apps keep small: it must be smaller than 60 KiB. |
| Connection status | Shows when the connection drops. | Shows WebMCP connected once an assistant uses the tab, until you reload or switch boards. The browser can't tell when it stops. |
Privacy
Connecting a board to an AI assistant keeps your board traffic between your computer and your AI app:
- Direct local connection: both methods run on your computer (the MCP server on your machine, and WebMCP inside your browser). Irakasi does not pass your board through its servers to reach your assistant.
- Sent to your AI app: whatever your assistant reads from the board, including files on the board, goes from your browser to your AI app under that app's privacy terms.
Anonymous problem reports

When your assistant runs into a problem that better Irakasi tools could have avoided, it can send Irakasi an anonymous report:
- Sent only for tool problems: your assistant sends a report only when it reports a tool problem, never for ordinary requests.
- Technical details only: assistants are instructed to describe only the technical problem, without content from your boards, prompts, or files.
- Filtered for private data: Irakasi checks each report for common signs of private information (such as file paths, web links, or email addresses) and rejects it when it finds one.
Reports are on by default for both ways of connecting. To turn them off:
- Open the AI connection button in the Board header.
- Open Settings.
- Turn off Share anonymous problem reports.
