Board WebMCP

Let an AI agent work on your board through a browser that supports WebMCP.

An AI assistant creating editable magazine layouts on a board through WebMCP.

Board WebMCP lets an AI agent view and edit your board through the browser where the board is open. It uses WebMCP, a proposed web standard that lets web pages offer tools to AI agents: the board offers its tools to the browser, and the agent working in that browser uses them.

There are two ways to set it up:

  • An AI app with its own browser: some AI apps, such as Codex, include a browser where their agent works. Open the board in that browser.
  • A browser with its own AI assistant: some browsers include an AI assistant, for example in a sidebar or through an extension. Open the board in that browser and ask its assistant.

Either way, you don't need the local board MCP server, and the browser and its agent must support WebMCP. For large files:

  • Add a large file: give your agent a web address the board tab can download, or use the local board MCP server, which takes files from your computer.
  • Read a long document: your agent reads PDFs, e-books, and comic books a few pages or chapters at a time.
  • Read a whole large file: a file the board loads from a web address reaches your agent as that address. Through WebMCP, any other whole file must be smaller than 60 KiB (see Limits). For larger ones, use the local board MCP server.

You see the state of Board WebMCP in the window that Use AI with this board opens, below the board title, in its Board WebMCP section.

What you need

  • An AI agent that works in a browser, in either of the two setups above, with:
    • A browser that supports WebMCP. WebMCP is new, so support is still arriving; the Board WebMCP section shows Available when the browser offers it.
    • The board open in that browser, and the agent allowed to access its tab.

Connecting a board

Connecting a board.

Let your agent work with the board open in a browser tab.

  • Operation:
    1. Open the board in the browser where your agent works: your AI app's browser, or the browser that has the assistant.
    2. Give your agent access to the board's tab.
    3. Ask your agent to work on the board, for example "Describe what is on this board".
  • Needs: Board WebMCP available in the tab, and an agent that supports it.
  • Result: your agent can view and edit the board in that tab.

The Board WebMCP section shows one of these statuses:

  • Available: the board offers its tools to the browser. This does not mean an agent is connected.
  • Not available: the board's tools aren't available in this tab, usually because the browser doesn't offer WebMCP. You can still use the local board MCP server.
  • Working: your agent is running a request.
  • WebMCP connected: an agent has used this tab. The browser does not report when an agent leaves, so the status stays until you reload the page or switch boards.

To stop access through Board WebMCP, block the browser agent in the activity dropdown:

  • Operation: open Agent activity below the connection button and turn on Block access on the browser agent's card.
  • Result: queued and new requests from assistants sharing that browser agent are refused. A request already running finishes, and existing changes stay.
  • Allow access again: turn the block off. Reloading or leaving the page ends that browser agent's connection and its block (see Blocking an agent).
  • End tab access: close the tab or remove your assistant's access to it in its browser or AI app.

Your other boards

Your agent can also read your other boards saved in this browser without opening them, by exact name or by Board ID.

  • To change a board's contents, it opens the board in its tab.
  • It can rename, duplicate, or delete saved boards without opening them. Deleting a board this way can't be undone.

Adding images and files to the board

Ask your agent to add an image, a video, or another file, and it places it on the board.

  • Web links: your agent can add files from web addresses the board tab is allowed to download.
  • Files inside the request: your agent can send the file inside its request. This suits small files, since some AI apps limit how much a request can carry.
  • Files on your computer: for these, use the local board MCP server.

Privacy

  • Board WebMCP runs inside your browser tab. Irakasi does not pass your board through its servers.
  • What your agent reads from the board goes to your AI app. Check its privacy terms.
  • Only agents working in the browser where the board is open can use it.
